Green Carpet Fashion Awards:the winners of the 2020 edition︎︎︎

MILAN – On Saturday 10th October, the Green Carpet Fashion Awards were held, for the first time, this year, in a completely digital version. The event, organized by the National Chamber of Italian Fashion in collaboration with Eco-Age and the Municipality of Milan, and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation International and ICE Agency, celebrates fashion houses’ commitment towards the topic of sustainability.

As the peak of the event dedicated to the Green Carpet Fashion Awards, were attributed to the winners five iconic GCFA statuettes, made by Chopard in ethical gold. The famous Teatro della Scala in Milan, which has been the venue of the event since the first edition of 2017, was transformed for the occasion into a magnificent virtual stage design, beautified with an explosion of flowers and plants.

Here are the five winners:

Zendaya won the GCFA Visionary Award, for her personal commitment to change the world of fashion towards a more inclusive and aware future.

Progetto Quid Brand was honoured with GCFA Responsible Disruption Award, thanks to its ethical approach on several fronts. As a matter a fact, not only it produces amazing clothes with leftover fabrics, but also employs fragile and needy people, especially women. In seven years, Progetto Quid has hired 142 people, 70% of whom are women.

The GCFA Best Independent Designer Award was assigned to the young designer Sindiso Khumalo, who defines herself as a “modern Robin Hood”. The designer creates luxury clothes in order to help the poorest, often forgotten by the society.

The GCFA North Star Award was awarded to the United Nations for The UN Global Goals, on the strength of their indisputable leadership on the topic of sustainability.

In particular, the GCFA Art of Craftmanship Award, won by Italian artisans, has great value for me. "This year all our brands would have deserved most of the awards, given the incredible contribution they have made to the health emergency we have experienced: not only through huge donations, but also through the industry conversions to medical and health production. However, the Brands felt it was more important to emphasize and give relevance to the hundreds of thousands of people who work behind the scenes in the production chain: artisans, tailors, pattern makers and all the other workers” stated Carlo Capasa, President of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion.

It is precisely the artisans, who worked behind the scenes during the difficult historical period that we have just lived, to embody the ideas of rebirth and solidarity, key to this edition. It is in their hands that I imagine a future of hope, responsibility, therefore innovation.
